If you’ve played RUST then chances are you’re a huge fan of that particular kind of genre overall. We know that we loved RUST and that even though we still play it from time to time, we fancied something fresh to play. This is our list of the top 5 games that are similar to RUST!
Left 4 Dead 2
The Long Dark
Best Games Like RUST:
Finding a game that’s similar to RUST isn’t hard, but finding games that are worth the time to check out and maybe even spend hard earned dollars on is probably the trickier part. In the list we’ve set out there are some absolute killer games that you need to check out if you haven’t got them already!
We’ve mentioned in several articles in the past, including our Don’t Starve Review about just how good this game actually is! In terms of being similar to RUST it has a pretty decent, albeit different and somewhat limited (by the games visual style) crafting system. However what’s great about the game is the way you need to plan your survival according to the seasons, landscape and so forth.
It’s just a top game that can’t be missed for anyone that’s a fan of survival games, especially survival horrors since this game is actually eery and sometimes creepy.
Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 are classic zombie games that certainly inspired many of the games such as DayZ, RUST and so forth. While there isn’t really a huge element of survival or open-world in this game, the general gameplay is excellent and it’s one of our favorite co-op games.
If you’re looking for something that is as similar to RUST as possible then maybe give this game a miss, but if you’re more interested in zombie games than anything, definitely get it!
The Forest is an open-world survival horror game where you’re thrown onto a huge island with plenty of mystery. You need to hunt and forage for a long time just to get a basic base setup, even chopping trees becomes a tough task of chopping the wood while managing your energy and then transporting it back to your camp.
When night comes, things can get pretty hairy. You’ll likely want to change your base placement pretty quickly if you put it in the wrong area as humanoid-monsters descend upon you to drag you back to their lair. This game is scary as hell and so much fun, it can be frustrating when you get captured as it can be hard to find your way back to your base. All of this makes the game an extremely difficult survival horror that you can’t miss if you’re a big fan of RUST.
The Long Dark is an episodic survival horror that drops you into the middle of a frozen and unforgiving wilderness where you can easily freeze to death before even finding the resources you need. The first episode is actually really long and doesn’t feel massively like an episodic type of game. Instead it very much feels like you’re thrown into an open-world survival game.
After countless failures and close-calls you’ll eventually complete the first episode of the game. This can take a varying amount of time depending on how much you want to explore and generally a bit of luck as well. It’s an interesting game that’s well worth checking out, and it’s a lot of fun. We think the game has a lot of potential to keep developing amazingly, so it’s well worth every cent!
Fortnite is one of those games that doesn’t get enough praise. They’ve done some amazing things, and while there’s still a lot wrong with the game (such as being really hard to learn comprehensively) it’s still massively entertaining to play alone. If you have some friends to play with then it’s a whole lot better!
Your goal in the game is to complete various missions while also gathering resources to utilize for defending your homebase. There’s so many missions in the game and it’s actually a bit frustrating that you can’t just spend all your time defending an ever expanding homebase. However that’s just our personal opinion!
The zombies in the game remind us a lot of the ones from Left 4 Dead in the sense that there are lots of different zombies with different abilities. It’s a bit arcadey in that sense and in the actual style of the graphics as well. However it’s still our personal favorite zombie survival horror at the moment in terms of entertainment. It’s well worth playing regardless of whether you feel like it’s your personal best choice for a game like RUST or not, as it’s a future classic and a must-have for any serious gamer!
Wrapping up this list, we’ve got to say that we don’t think there are many good games out there that compare to RUST, but the games on this list although different in many ways, also include many of the same elements while being unique enough to make them great games in their own right.
We think that fans of RUST will love the games on this list and we highly recommend checking out more about them!
